I miss the Modified class also. I was the US Nationals Indianapolis when they held the "parade" down the return lane with banners "Save Modified" 1981 or so IIRC.

One year in Indy for the Nationals, we watched Dave Hughes do an engine swap on his BB Modified Production early (1958-62) Corvette in the back parking lot of the motel !! Sportsman racers used to have to leave the track at night, no overnight camping inside the facility. Still remember seeing all the oil stained motel towels lying around the car as they worked. We also had Crawford Benham from Texas at our hotel with his '67 or '68 Red G/MP 279ci, 5 speed Camaro, a true 10,000 plus rpm performer !!!

Andrews 02 Roll cage work.jpg Good post, I`m an old fan of that class also. I`ve always been a door car class fan. For some...,[ Pro stock, super stock, top sportsman, etc ]. One of my sons good friends runs 2 68 Camaros in Top sportsman classes, 1 with a 872 Reher Morrison, the other with one of several 500 ci Reher Morrison engines depending on the track. My son is building another X275 class street legal, barely, 2002 Camaro. The last one ran 8.50`s consistently and was street driven. Also I`ve been friends with Greg Stanfield for years. His son Aaron is now running factory stock and Pro stock. Their shop is about 6-7 miles from the house. Again good post.
