umm if i were you dont go though all the work! blah!
just use a hot power sprayer to clean all the new stuff and then mybe a peice of sand paper 80grit. to make it rough for the undercoat to stick too

then tape it off and go out and buy dupli color (in a rattle can) truck bed liner...its the easyest and cleanest and cheapest undercoat ive used and reall like the way it turns out

good luck

I was thinking or using POR15 on my ride also. My car is very solid for a northern car and I want to keep it that way.

I asked a rep at a local Alwill paint store, and he said that POR15 can be painted over anything, but there can't be any oil or dirt on it.

POR can go over good solid paint...it will only stick as good as the material it goes over. It really likes "seasoned" metal ie...slightly rusty. If it is bare metal you have to use Metal Ready to season the metal.

If you don't clean it well and prep the surface (whatever it is, bare metal, rusty metal or painted surface) POR15 WILL PEEL RIGHT OFF.

If you're going to paint the underside of your car, and spend the time laying on your back to do it (not to mention risk getting POR15 on your clothes, garage floor and God forbid your skin) do it once and do it right.

It sucks but the end results are way worth it.

Word of Caution!!!!!

I am from Houston area. I knew the POR distributor here just north of us in Magnolia, Texas, "The POR Guys" auto restoration. (i said knew because he died from a weird cancer that was believed to be linked to POR paint.) He was a great guy and was dedicated to classic car restoration people. He was aslo a retired Houston Police officer.

I would recommend researching the P.O.R. product Material Data Safety Sheet very carefully. I blast cars with Baking Soda to strip paint. We get requests to use POR, which stands for Paint On Rust to coat the frames, undercarriage etc... I highly recommed you use a fresh air full face shield breathing helmut or face filter with OSHA ANSI rated Chemical removal filtration rating as well as use gloves and not get this stuff on your skin. It adsorbs into your pours very quickly and wont come off. If you breath in the vapor or fumes from this product, you can cause irriversable lung damage that can mean death. Seriously!!!

P.O.R. is a fantastic product and will do what the spec sheets say given the proper and safe application of the product. It is not like paint that can be more tollerable if breathed accidentally. P.O.R. should be respected and used with caution. I personally do not believe a small accidental one time lapse in protection against what i said above will be absolute,, just use caution and common sense. I use POR products to this day but very carefully.

O.K. enough said. I did not wish to scare anyone unecessarily and hope i have not done so. I read the thread about spraying the product and felt an obligation to post this warning. Just use common sense and be careful no matter what product you use.

Good Luck from Tomball, Texas. JM.

i have the metal ready and their dirt/grease remover from their 3 step undercoating kit so if i use both of those i should be fine right?

thank you jamsmas i was actually going to without any protection, but i think im gonna make a stop by harbor freight before i start and pick myself up a nice new mask.

the soaking into the skin part is RIGHT. I got some on me and I went immediately to GOJO it and only 60% came off. A week ago now and I still have some on my tattoo on my left arm -.-

I personally wouldn't run a risk, and scuff it with 180 or something then metal ready... be safe than sorry, right? Why risk it peeling off when it's expensive. It likes rust the best, so scuffing it only makes sense to me.
