Ok im finally finishing off my camaro build and its been a few years. Mainly cause of a couple of years away at schooling and jobs and I cant remember how the power steering pump bracket mounts up. If anyone can show me a pic that would be great. I have a 80z28 with ac and a mechanical water pump and victor jr intake also, Seems like the victor jr was mounted up wierd with the bracket last time if i remember correctly, but its just been a while. Any help guys?

Power steering pump has 3 mount points. All of them are in somewhat odd places.

1. To the cylinder head. There is a double-sided STUD that goes in the bottom bolt hole, closest to the intake manifold, in the head. It provides the fucrum point around which the whole pump/bracket rotates to tighten the belt. Since it's a STUD, the hex head in the middle of the stud also spaces the bracket/pump about 1/4" off the front of the head so the pulley lines up properly with the crank pulley (otherwise it will be too far towards the head at the top and be "out of plane" with the rest of the pulleys).

2. A bolt that goes through the P/S bracket and into it's own bolt hole on the water pump. This bolt hole is on the driver's side "arm" of the water pump close to where it meets the engine block, on the bottom.

3. There are 2 (TWO!!) interlocking brackets that also hold the A/C compressor and provides the 3rd mount point for the power steering. Bracket 1: This bracket is a tall vertical one that provides one of the mounts for the the A/C on top and for the P/S on the bottom. This bracket bolts to the 2 exhaust manifold STUDS that are on either side of exhaust port #1 (assuming you are using stock manifolds, if not you'll have to fab up some spacers, possibly cutting one of these mounting tabs off the bracket completely to clear the header tube). Bracket 2: interlocks with bracket 1 and gives it it's real strength. A triangular shaped bracket that bolts to the 2 remaining bolt holes in the front of the head and locks into Bracket 1 out on it's other end. Bracket 1 and 2, above, MUST be used together or you will have no strength in the system to support this 3rd mount point for the P/S pump/bracket.

Mount points #2 & #3, above are both "slotted" type bolt holes to allow the P/S pump/bracket to be rotated to tighten the belt.

A picture would be worth a thousand words here. Since I had no picture, I used a thousand words.

I screwed around forever trying to get a power stg pump mounted to my 327 with 291 heads (non-acc holes) and not have to fab a bunch of spacers off the front header bolt. I just picked up some Alan Grove Components brackets that look like they'll work great. GM should of done it like this in the first place. The pump bracket bolts to the old 265 engine mount holes in the front, and the adjuster bolts to the water pump (where the old pump cradle bolted). They're $65 new, I got mine from eBay.

Scroll down for 402L, Long water pump. If you can't figure out what you have, you might consider this route.

thanks guys, I sure wish I had somemore time on my hand, but I need it fixed in the next couple of days for the move to Chicago Im taking. only 1 hole lines up and right now I havent even been able to take it on the street to try it out since the ps pump is hanging. Guess tommorrow ill have to go ahead and make some brackets or something for now. just seems like bad design on the ps brackets from gm.
