One of the last parts decisions I have to make. The forged Probes are only $50.00 more the KB130s, both for the 6" rod set up. I did a search here and read some interesting banter. I read an interesting 8 page article on this that was posted here. It suggests a small power advantage with hypers, on engines like mine, where detonation isn't likely to be a problem. 406 ( 10.0 : 1 static/ 8.2 : 1 dynamic compressions.) I will be thrilled if it gets to 450HP flywheel. It suggests the tighter clearances and better heat reflective composition see the hypers make a tiny bit more poof.

I know the Hypers require flawless machine work to fit round at .0015-.002" but the forged need that too. It will be done right either way. I also know I have to make allowances for the ring end gaps with the hypers. On the other hand the Probes are light as well and all my earlier experiance was with forged.

Last decision I need to make. I would like to hear from the pros and happy amatuers alike before I buy.

Go with the forged ones.
This is the one part of my build that I wish I would have thought about better.
If it wasn't for an incompetant machinest, I would have probably gone with forged.
Then it really made my new machinest happy to have to clean up the other guys mess.

Why not Forged KB'S, They do make them now and they actually compare (between) probe & SRP as far as the quality I've seen. They run around $350 a set.

You should check out Pro Tru as well, made by Wiseco, are light, forged, and come with an excellent set of rings.
KB's are full of shyte when they say they run tight clearances. Sure they may have 2 thou at the skirt tips, but across the pin they generally have .005", about the same as a forged. They are also very thin in the lid and have too high a top ring placement, forcing you to run ring gaps .010" greater than a comparable forged.

My supplier for the Pro Tru's took today off so I will get back to you Wednesday evening Tom. It looks like the Pro Tru's will come in at about $50 to $100 more than the Probes. If you have priced out the pistons locally already shoot me a letter with the prices so I can see if I'm in line. At least if I'm way overpriced I can let you know so you can buy locally instead.
