I bought a rebuilt th350 had oil tube gasket blocking the hole to keep dust out. When I pulled gasket out I found two steel balls like buckshot and a small round gasket tape in the bottom. Any idea what this means?Any reason for this?

Sounds like check balls for the valve body, but someone smarter than me will know better. If they were put there on purpose, maybe they are spares or optional items that come with the rebuild.

I've never heard of a transmission shop leaving extra check balls or a gasket in the pan of a rebuilt transmission. I'd take it to a transmission shop and have them remove the valve body and make sure all of the check balls are in their proper place.

I was only thinking that because of where/how he found them. Sounds like they were taped into the dipstick hole and not just laying in the pan?

Sorry Biker. I misread what the OP said.
The dipstick tube funnel gasket by itself was in dipstick tube hole taped over with 2 steel balls and a small round gasket. I'm guessing to keep dirt out. I contacted the guy I bought tranny from, he said a friends trany shop rebuilt it and they were probably messing with him. He's supposed to contact shop and be sure.

hahaha......it's only funny to those that have built one!..... yes they were probably messing with him. typical shift kit requires removing 2 check balls from VB (IIRC...been like 35 yrs since i messed with a 350)

It's always more FUN to ADD extra parts to a guys bench when they have something torn apart ....than to say...remove 1 screw!! As you reassemble component you can see..."damn where is that screw"....look....look...look....hmm must have lost it....go get another. END!
BUTTTTTT
when you are finished assembling 300 pcs and then you see 1 little lock ring ..... your like "OH CHIT" that goes XXXXX now i gotta take out X,Y,Z,AA,BB..... to make damn sure i put that in!!! or the WORLD will explode!!!

see....MORE FUN.. ;)

not that I would do some thing like THAT!...lol
