should I eliminate power steering??

in most roads, tracks and for sure quarter mile, you don't use the steering, then it won't use any power except the friction the belt does to the pullies....then in the street you use it cause you have to use it... with out power steering it's a hell pain.... you may want to take off that belt in the track to test this...

Running power steering without a belt is nothing like running a manual steering box(driving it). At the track it's fine but on the street forget it.

you know some of you are kinda funny, I have had more than one car with manual steering, its no big deal, when the car is rolling it steers fine(easy), its when your trying to park or something when you have to turn sharp moving very slow that it sucks.

I think taking the belt off at the track is the best idea.

my CSI is rated to 35- 70 GPM.
Pretty wide "rating." Usually the rating is a tighter band than that. And most CSI are rated in the 30-something range, IIRC.
Interesting article, 31. I noted they have no alternator mounted on the test motor, so the 6-10 amp draw with the elec pump is not accounted for.
I have had more than one car with manual steering, its no big deal,
I have 11" wide front tires. It would be a big deal.;)
