Just replaced the timing chain on my 95 LT1. I have lined up timing marks on crank and cam sprockets at 6 for cam and 12 for crank which is TDC 6 (which is also the exhaust cycle for #1). Since the Opti has a setting on the back of the Opti for both TDC 1 and 6, why can't I just place the Opti wheel on back to 6 and install it on the dowel? Shouldn't that be OK instead of rotating the crank to TDC #1?

My opti only has one slot for the dowel (cam pin) to go into, as far as I can tell it doesn't care what piston is TDC as long as the slot is lined up correctly on the Opti??Any way no.6 is up when the crank is at 12 o'clock and the cam gear is at 6.. turn the crank 1 turn and the cam is at 12, no.1 is TDC, the way I was taught...
