We just installed trunk tension rods off a car that had a tall spoiler but for some reason our trunk lid still will NOT stay up! Keep wondering if there is a bunch of bondo or something weighing down the trunk lid?? (Will have to ck w/body shop re that) but would it make it that much heavier?

Are the tension rods that Classic Inds offer for the RIGHT side w/3 pc spoiler worth a try? I noticed they offer one for the LEFT side for no or low spoiler and the RIGHT one for 3 pc spoiler.

Also would 2 rods be needed for a 3pc spoiler trunk lid? Thx for your help!

To have the lid stay up, yes, there is a left and right rod. If they are not available, I have a couple pairs from cars where the lids stayed up.

Prop it up with a little blue pillow... :)

There are 2 or 3 slots for the rods to fit into... Each one gives a different sensation, Er... tension.

You have two rods...
Which slots are they in now?

The second hand rods will also have lost some tension over the years. I have two of the thicker ones currently installed with one on the highest setting. It worked fine when I put it together two years ago, but is already struggling to cope now.

yes we have 2 rods in--Im sure they are set on the proper tension since the shop is doing the work on it. I may just make a "decorative" prop of some kind to hold up the lid! Im tired of messin' with this. Thx for your info guys!

i put two new rods in mine, i don't have a spoiler, and it still doesn't stay up! it's on the strongest setting, not sure why... :(

That sounds impossible. My 73 had the original rods when I bought it. It did not have a spoiler at the time, and the trunk lid flew up fast and hard. I ended up going to a junk yard and pulling the larger diameter rod from another Camaro. I added my three piece spoiler, and it pops up ok, and stays up. Not hard like before though.
