The cast block will drill very easy compaired to a forged steel bar. If you end up drilling the block just make sure you put a rubber hose over the drill bit to keep it from going to deep. This will be a drill depth stop and taping the block is very easy to do if you have ever tap a hole before you should not have any problems doing this. Im gonna drill and tap the hole for the pivot ball on my 400 SBC tomarrow morning. You only need to drill about 3/4" deep or less for the pivot stud anyway.

I did the drill mod to the block today. You have to use a 27/64" drill bit and a 1/2"x13 tap to do this mod. I used a heavy duty 3/8" drill without any problems. The 406 was on my engine stand and this made it alot easyer to do than having the block siting on the floor. The pivot ball screws into the block and end fits nice a square to the block. It took about 5 mins to drill and tap the block.

Graveyard threaaaaaad whoooo. Anyhoo, did you use the pad that is already present above the oil filter? Mine seems to have a 1.5" round flat spot to do so.
