The spanner wrenches were sort of tedious to use even with the wheels off...but I honestly haven't done a ton of adjusting yet.

You only use the wrench for raising and lowering right? I was more wondering about adjusting the damping, if it is difficult to reach them with the wheels on. I guess I will find out soon though!

Next update: Interior

I got inspiration from this post a couple of years ago:
http://nastyz28.com/forum/threads/just-another-garage-fabbed-door-panel-thread.214990/

I bought all the materials after reading that post but only just now started working on the panels.

First, I cut the main panel (ABS sheet) with a jigsaw and used a file to slowly get it down to size. That took FOREVER. So luckily on re-reading that post, I saw protour73 say to score the panels with a razor blade and it was so much easier!

They break right apart after prying with pliers.

I decided I would keep it simple and make my insert just a basic offset of the main panel.

Test fit on the door.

I laid down the .25" foam and cut it out the same size as the main panel, then used the insert to trim out the middle.

i then covered the insert and used it to block the spray of the glue.

It was at this point that I started getting pretty nervous that I was going to screw this up since I have never done interior before, so I decided to mock up a little panel with scraps first.

Glue

Wrapped it with vinyl

I am glad that I decided to practice, this is hard.

It is hard to 1. wrap this stuff around sharp corners and 2. make it stick down in the center with a crisp line, rather than the big radius you can see.

I wrapped a little piece for the insert. I am hoping that even if the center portion doesn't stick all that well that the insert will cover it up.

To improve the inside radius a bit, I tried heating it up and using a rounded tool to stretch the material. Almost like stretching carpet. It seemed to help some.

So, I decided it's now or never! I glued the foam down and laid down the vinyl. I think it looks pretty good so far! Not perfect on the lines, but I think the insert will cover most of it.

Mocking up with the insert panel.

That is where I stopped tonight, but I am excited to finish my first door panel now!

That looks really good! I'm planning on doing something similar myself for my 71 so will be following your progress for sure!

Thanks bigguy! After seeing how crazy expensive repro panels are, I figured even if mine turn out a bit low quality they would be worth a try.

I did a little more work on my door panels...

I fillped the panel over, sprayed the glue and started praying! I have no idea what the right way to do this is, so I just went with what felt right and seemed to work..

Definitely a bit nerve racking and messy work with the spray adhesive...

The panel all wrapped up.

And test fit on the car. I think it turned out pretty well! Big thanks to protour73 for the how-to

Now I just need to finish up the top piece, you can see where I was testing out the fake carbon wrap. Just need to sand it down and put it on like a big sitcker. It wont be perfect but defintely better than now.

Also, need to figure out my arm rest situation and how that ties into my insert panel. If anyone has any ideas on that let me know. If there is a more modern vehice that has one that would fit, I would consider buying something. Or if there is something a bit cheaper than the custom fiberglass ones for hotrods...

That looks awesome! I am going to have to do that for my car. I even have a couple sheets of the ABS. You should just put a cage in your car....Then you won't need an armrest. :D
