MIght have something to do with the fact is has been #3 in sales in that segment for several years. Might be that Chevrolet tended to like to sell the $$$$$$ SS and higher-price factory hot rods than V-6 models, just as they chose to not have anything equivalent to my '77 Type LT V-8 style car. There is a Motor Trend video comparing a new Mustang GT convertible and a new Camaro convertible. Although the Camaro was a much better "track car", the Mustang GT was a more comfortable car to drive and enjoy with the top down. So, the Camaro might have the great handling to conquer the German tracks, but that's not day-to-day use on USA Interstates.

The other thing is GM's love affair with electric vehicles, no doubt. All hydrocarbon-fueled engines will go into the Silverados, Corvettes, and such, in the longer range situation, it appears. Might also be at the end of its platform's life, too. A platform which might not be easily adaptable to hybrid or full-electric propulsion.

Other than the poor sales, there are many side-issues which ultimately led to the poor sales figures. Just like the last time the Camaro "went on vacation".

Just some observations,

I'm Glad it's GONE.
.I've never ever liked the First Generation Camaro Body style...so no friggin way was a new Camaro, reguardless of the size engine or trim an option. I think they made those and aimed them at a buyer like 10 years older than me....like when they were in High School and the 1968, 1969 Camaro was the car they all wet their pants over.....Sorry.... Not me buddy.

Not the first time...

I really want to like the Gen 5-6 Camaro, I've given them a bunch of chances. When it comes down to it, they are too heavy, the visibility too poor, the back seat is nearly useless. You end up with a road car that isn't good for much, and a track car that's too porky.

Becuase the bean counters at GM like to kill anything that doesn't sell a lot of units. They did the same with the Fiero in '88. When I talked with out Zone rep he showed me pictures of the next gen Fiero for '90 and it would have been a hit as it looked like a little Ferrari but sine Pontiac sold less than 30K units in '88 they killed it off for good. They are idiots at GM and it has really shown since the 2000's IMO.

I wondered about the old S10 too. But the current Camaro is about the size of an Impala outside, 4000 lbs, and with V8 power will run right at $50,000. You don't see many under 40 folks driving a new Camaro.

And thats the REAL problem. $50k is running about $750 a month for 60 months, PLUS insurance. I'm not pissing away close to a grand a month on a car. A 4 door truck I can use to haul stuff, get groceries, or fit 3 life sized friends ? MMMmm.. maybe.

Not many people have the kind of scratch to buy a 2 door two seater..
