Looking for streetable (pump gas) ideas for a low 11 second 79 camaro. Ideas so far
All ideas are with either a small centrifugal supercharger or turbo
Also all with th7004r and 3:08 rear diff
355 880 block, 9:1 compression flotex 185X heads, 268 "nitrous " hydraulic roller cam
406 flotex 215 x heads, 274"nitrous" cam
Ls3 or LQ4 with summit stage2 turbo cam
454 with 315 oval.poer flotek heads and comp nitrous cam CL11-411-8
I know someone is gonna ask "what's with the Flotek heads"
Been doing a lot of research , and bang for the buck they look like winners.
Figure I can build any of these for around the same price + or - $1500

Are we talking 11.9 or 11.0? You are not building an 11 sec engine, you are building an 11 sec car. What’s is streetable to you? It’s gonna take some power to get a full interior 79 Camaro into the 11s.

I have a 650hp LS and it’s not in the 11s. It’s got the power, but it’s a full heavy street car. It’s not on slicks, it’s a manual and it doesn’t have deep 4.xx gears. It’s a no kidding street car.

If you want to strip your cars interior and lighten it as much as possible, having a single aluminum seat etc, you can do it with a 355 SBC. You want true street car, I’d do a turbo 5.3LS that can put you at 700+

Ya I'm staying full interior, even with that should put me around 3500lbs, figure I need around 600hp mid to high 11s, 700 should put me mid to low 11s. I watch full weight mustang gt's with bolt ons tickle at 10 second passes all the time. I know they are underrated at 460 hp, but no way are they 700hp. The camaro is also gonna get the suspension/chassis sorted out. I'm not relying solely on raw power

My 81 Camaro Sport has a 5.7L LS with aftermarket heads/cam/intake. It made 460hp/400tq at the wheels. It has gone 11.65 @ 118 mph on drag radials. It has a Tremec TKX (manual) transmission and 3.73 rear gears. It also has full interior and is a street car with no cage, or even frame connectors for that matter.

Sub 12 seconds is doable at that weight if you have traction, power and gearing. 700r4 has a nice deep 1st gear for launch, but quite a jump to 2nd gear, and the 3.08 rear will make it tough to overcome the rpm drop between gears. 3.73 would really help.
Traction will be the tough one. Some smart guys here know how to set that up.

I’d like to see time slips!

When I had my LS1, same 460hp to the wheels, TKO, etc….i had tons of passes at the Vegas strip and mid 12s was as quickest I could get with 200TW tires. I don’t think drag radials would have cut a second off, but it might have been a low 12, just maybe super high 11. I’m sure your 81 is much heavier than my 70.

Drag radials, slicks, an engine that doesn’t idle, open exhaust isn’t a street car. Just because you don’t have laws where you live and drive it on the street, doesn’t make it a street car.
