I agree with Bondo, that car isn't safe IMO at all. I don't care how the NHSTA rates it.
Physically it's too light and large vehicles will destroy it in a major accident.

Never mind the clown car aspect being crushed inside of it like a tuna can.

As much as i feel better in a larger car, its pretty amazing how well the little lunch box's hold up. Wish i had pics but long story short I wrecked a 2010-2011 Chevy Aveo into a '97 ish Civic at 40-45mph

The Civic was destroyed because you more then likely gave it a good speed SIDE impact. Correct??
Most Crash tests these guys only show you FRONTAL impacts.

You'd probably sh** yourselves if you seen how most any Compact or Subcompact cars fare in a side or rear impact at those speeds VS a larger car, SUV, or pickup. Keep in mind the NHSTA Rated that year Civic as a 5 star for SIDE crash impact. http://car-safety-ratings.findtheda...e-the-safety-ratings-for-the-1997-Honda-Civic

Anyone still feel Compacts are really safe ?? I don't.
It's not MY driving I'm worried about.......it's other people blowing red lights possibly T-boning my car.

My friend got T-boned in a 2011 Civic right at the intersection coming into work. The girl that hit her was driving a Camry, blew the light at 55-60mph, didn't even hit the brakes before impact.

My friend died instantly... but not the way you insinuate. Her head was crushed behind the ear on the left side, because her head hit the B-pillar before the side curtain air bags could fully deploy. It was too fast, too hard.
There was still enough room in the seat for her to be there without getting her pelvis crushed (yes, I saw photos...) To just look at the car, it was hard to figure out how someone died in it.

Not scared, but my family doesn't fit in a car that tiny, so I won't have one any time soon regardless.

Sorry to hear about your friend bro.

Ironically enough I was in a 1997 Camry.....or 1998 brand new rental car and we were going 50mph down a Minnesota road. I was a contractor building new Home Depots across the midwest at the time. So as we're driving some old lady turned left off an angled street into our lane. She smacked us, and forced us to veer right into a vehicle coming from the opposite direction she was. 4 Guys in this Camry and we gave her a full side impact. I was the only smart one wearing a safety belt in the rear. I know he slammed on the brakes, so no idea how much force of speed we actually hit her with.

The lady has to be cut out of the car with the jaws of life. She was sandwiched into the car like a metal bathtub. She was a rather large woman to top it off. This was a mid size vehicle, I forget which one. God forbid the car caught on fire, she would have surely died in it. After that day I swore I'd only drive trucks.

We had no intention of hitting her, but we were smacked at a higher speed right into her. These are the accidents that worry me more then anything.....oblivious drivers that aren't paying attention. This was looooong before texting too.

What about the Chevy Cruz eco? They are supposed to get as good mileage as the spark or the sonic.

I test drove one and I was pretty damn impressed with it overall.
Power delivery was pretty decent with the 6 speed manual......can't comment on the MPG's tho.

It's not as small inside as the other cars in it's class.....at least to me it wasn't.
Sit in that Cruze rear seat then go sit in the Ford Focus clown car backseat.

I just did a search and found a video doing side testing of my car are you sure they don't perform side crash ratings on cars?

That's not what I said.
Of course they do side crash testing, because it's given a 1-5 star rating.

My point is, 40% of deaths occur from side impact crashes.
Of that, I'm going to speculate a majority of them are in little econoboxes up to mid size vehicles.

Hopefully your new Scion has side air bags for your sake.
