I have the same heads. They are good heads. I personally would leave them stock valve sizes. Its gonna cost some good cash to get the bigger valves for what?? $1000 for say approx 30HP? not a good return for the money spent.

I'd say give the bowls and ports a good cleaning up some new valves and good to go.

just my 2 cents.

I been researching the heads for a while, talked to a few members here and the best bang for the buck for me was to do what they suggested.

Get a nice cam, 781 heads, bump the compression to about 9.5/1, performer RPM intake, headers, a 750 double pumper and i'd say your golden.

again thats just me. Hope that helps

Good to hear about the heads. They will be completly cleanind inside and out. New valves as well.

I already have:

Performer RMP intake
Headers
750 Double Pumper

Just stumped on the CAM.

The gist I got from going over posts at chevelles.com was if you were leaving it alone,or mildly building it it was good.Improved oiling system, crank seal, rollor cam.....
But if you were going to punch them out ,the early blocks were better.(mark IV).There was more meat around the piston walls??

Is the Gen IV the better big block to build?
I think that is the general consensus. Mark IV

GM couldn't use the name Mark V, Lincoln trademarked it. So they had to use Gen V. Big blocks go Mark I, Mark II, Mark III, Mark IV, Gen V, Gen VI.

Like Krabben said, better oiling & cooling, one piece rear seal, OEM roller set-up.

Draw backs: 0.060 max over-bore, no mechanical fuel pump boss.....
