I am presently running a bigblock in my 71 Z/28 ,but have recently acquired the original numbers matching shortblock for my car . I am going to try to assemble the shortblock with a good set of original heads ( when I find them ) . I have located an original Winters intake with the proper GM casting number and it also has a 600 double pump Holley on it . I asked the guy to sell it . he's had it for 25+ years and he is going to let me know this week if he will sell or not . Its kind of a keep sake for him as its off his old 71 Z ,but he also knows he will probably never ever use it . the intake should be cleaned and or beadblasted and visually it looks good , no noticeable cracks , does not appear to have been planed and there is no corrosion in the water jackets . The carb is not correct for my engine , but is still good for a future project after its rebuilt , or to sell or barter for something I need. what is this package worth ? I figured 50 for the carb and $150 to 200 for the intake . Is this a reasonable offer ? Is it worth more ? I dont want to pay too much and dont want to lowball the guy so he doesnt end up selling . any opinions will be appreciated , thanks

I posted a "what is it worth" thread on this site about two years ago asking what my '71 winters Z28 intake manifold was worth and sold it for $350 in two hours in hind site I probably could have gotten more.

Not sure how accurate you're trying to restore your car but just as an FYI, the 71 intake is different than the 1970. I believe the mounting for the thermostat choke coil is different and no oil filler tube hole for 71 (so no freeze plug). Mike

This intake is #3959594 , I had a hard time seeing the number because it was underneath the float bowl .the carb was bolted to the intake and I didnt have any tools with me to remove it . but I was able to get the number off it . I checked the number on the NastyZ specifications page and it shows for a 71/72 LT-1 . Its looking like the offer I was thinking of throwing at him would have been a little low . Thinking maybe I should offer a bit more if he does decide to sell . then I have to find some 487 heads in good shape .

That would be correct for your car. Your offer might be a little low but you can always go up. If your offer is too much you'll never know it. Don't let that one get away.

No freeze plug on a '70 intake either. The choke mounting pedestal is indeed different. A '71/2 intake will have the cylinder numbers cast into each intake runner...a '70 will not.

Got it !

Got the intake and carb for $250 , casting # 3959594 . intake seems to be in good shape , I'll have to bead blast it for sure . no cracks , corrosion , etc. oil baffle / splash shield on bottom of intake is in good shape and not rusted or dented . the list # 4776-2 Holley needs a major rebuild , throttle shafts seized etc . thats no biggie though , I just wanted the intake !

I have a pair of 487 castings that are the 1.94 version so they are just mundane stock. Still covered in 40 years of grease and grime.

I wonder what my DZ intake and Carb are worth?.....
