I'm starting to redo the inside of my Camaro. I bought this OEM lower dash but when I went to install it, it doesn't match. Notice the outward insert that appears to light up. As you can see , my lower dash piece has been cut, that's why I'm replacing it.

This is the way mine should look I guess. So is this a camaro dash and not a Z28 dash?

Your old one also has the provision for the "Fasten Seat Belt" light.

All of the lower dashes from 74-81 had the light. (Early lower Camaro dash panels command a premium price without the light.)
For 79-81, the upper dash covered it and the functioning "Fasten Seat Belt" light was moved to the dash bezel. (That panel to the right of the cigarette lighter.)

Summary.... You bought a lower dash which will work in your 79. :D

Nice man;) now just trying to figure out how to remove it lol. I've taken a load of stuff off but cant take off the upper dash, not sure if ita not melted on. So that light would just fit up under the dash panel?

Yes, the light is behind the upper dash in a 79-81.

You don't need to remove the upper dash to replace the lower dash.
My son and I did it several years ago in his car so I'm sure it can be done.

When I went to try and remove it , it appears to have been possibly glued or melted. I'm going to try and make time to work on it tomorrow.
