Regulations, our domestic litigation stance environmental rules, OSHA, DOL etc.. created a price point that made these parts a foreign only source of manufacturing.

On the upside the recent passage of the BBB effectively ended 50 years of CAFE regulations here. The CAFE rules are still there alright but the structure to place fines on Manufacturers was totally withdrawn making these 55 year old regulations toothless at the end of the day.

Apply a version of. Regulatory roll back to enable future manufacturing too??

It would be nice to make restoration parts here though. If that happens it will likely be because Mr.GT and his buddies bring the operations stateside to sell here because it somehow becomes cheaper to do so.

Meaning Taiwan base operations could focus on the remainder of the global demand perhaps?

That was an outstanding video. It reminds me of my buddies manufacturing plant and foundry in Marikina Philippines.

I would really like to see this all come back to the U.S. The chances of that are a huge challenge today. However there are literally thousands of old mills and plants that shut down under Clinton that could easily be used to house such operations today. I sure hope someone has the vision to do that. As personally, I would like to purchase my parts here, rather than outside of the country, if the price point was the same.

Back years ago, my daughters mother (Not my wife) was an artist. She painted canvass paintings that were quite large. Mostly underwater , plant life and some tigers. I remember when we made giclee reproductions and the big advertising point was made in the USA, right in Hawaii. We used local printers, local ink, paint, etc.

They did not sell well just because of that selling point. (Her art was outstanding however).

I guess the point being Labelling something MADE IN THE USA sounds great, but in practice, the American people have not allowed that to catch on as a people.

Even if the stamping plant is in the USA, if the metal used is imported, the metal is subject to the tariffs. Cost of raw materials is a large portion of production costs.
There are US based steel manufacturers, but they are uncommon.

Those things said, I work for a US based metal stamping factory. If you know someone who wants to reshore, DM me, we're in growth mode. We actually do bodies in white for a major OEM. </self promotion>

I will say, the Asian based metal plants can be as good as anywhere else. But, as with most things you have to watch the QC and you get what you pay for. Buy from the cheapest vendor, get the cheapest stuff.
They have 3 steel plants reopening here

A majority of people have no clue what it takes or the benefits of manufacturing locally. About the only thing that a majority of folks see is $$$$$ this costs less!!

So true. I have two coworkers that only care about the short term. We have had 2 of our engine manufacturers that we handle incease prices and one add a tariff surcharge. I visited about 75 of our dealers and two inquired about teriffs, two mentioned teriffs in passing and one was just beginning stupid about it. The rest were crickets. That tells me that 70 of my dealers see the end game.

For whatever reason - the automotive market seems to be particularly price sensitive.
I've seen no many people risk their lives putting a plug on the tread-edge a damaged tire that needs to be replaced... or balk at spending an extra $10 for good brake pads vs the cheapest parts-house crap.

Never understood it.

AMD is full of crap. The problem isn’t tariffs, the problem is they outsource their production overseas. The tariff isn’t on raw materials…it’s auto parts! They make sheetmetal parts for penny on the dollar, make ridiculous profits and then complain about tariffs. When you make millions…How about they produce the parts in the US like GM did when these cars were new. Maybe we would get a repop panel that fit.

There are 25%-50% tariffs on Steel and Aluminum that went into effect in June.
