Don't your headers have a flange and bolt ring on them? Mine do. The reducer is also flanged and came with a ring to slide over and bolt to the header ring.

Maybe take a photo or two and post what you have. It may help.

My headers do have the flange and bolt ring. Take a look at the link in post number 4- the supplied reducer cone does not have any flange- it is straight. All of the exhaust work I have done has usually required a header collector reducer from the 3" header down to the 2.5" exhaust tube. This kit's "reducer cone" does not have a lip on the end like a reducer I am familiar with. I cant' imagine how the gasket and bolt ring would seal between Flowmaster's reducer cone and a normal header collector. I won't be able to get pics for a few hours.

Edit: I do have access to a mig welder, but it seems like but welding the joints on a kit that has a MSRP of $500 ish gets kind of rediculous. BTW- I didn't pay MSRP...

I can see the 2.5" end of the reducer cone is welded to the h pipe extension in the pic, but I am having a tough time identifying what is on the other side of the bolt ring. It even looks like the 3" end of the reducer cone has been shortened. The joint between the header collector and the 3" end of the famous reducer cone is where I am lost.

If your headers have a flange and 3 bolt ring then you MUST have a 3" reducer with a 3 bolt ring like the one shown in the link http://store.summitracing.com/partd...part=SUM-G4754&N=700+-101825+115&autoview=sku
You have non-flange reducer. Throw them out and buy a pair from summit that reduce down to 2 1/2" and weld it to the h-pipe or figure out a way to clamp it.

This is exactly what I believed was required for my setup.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy that the equipment I had wasn't going to go together in smooth fashion.

Anyone know what Flowmaster has in mind shipping this kit with the flangless reducer cone and a new 3 bolt ring with gasket? Obviously this doens't bolt up to a normal header collector with 3 bolt ring flange.

Thanks for everyone's help. I think my local Oreilly had the 2.5" reducer in stock from Flowtech.

I have the exact same setup (American Thunder with Hooker Comps) and made things easy on myself. I picked up the Flowmaster ball and socket adapter and welded it onto the header. Worked out real nice and took some of the stress off the system since it allowed the pipes to swivel a little before I tightened them down. Good luck.

Aren't there headers out there that don't have a flange and are made to be welded solid to the rest of the exhaust system?
I think so. I always thought those would work best for an open header setup.
