Welcome....

You have to read the sticker on the ladder. Don't lay across a 2x4 on the top rung and hoist a 400lb engine on it.

That is classic. Will it act as your engine stand as well. :p

Welcome aboard! :)

Looks like you're off to a good start. How's it look underneath?
Might want to have a plan in place for your engine & trans before buying suspension parts.

It was a 6x10 beam so it was pretty sturdy and both ladders are rated at 250lbs,. As for the under carriage, its in really good condition, just some very superficial surface rust in a few spots, but nothing a grinder and a wire wheel can't take care of. I haven't got the carpet up yet so I'm not to sure what the floor boards look like, the trunk on the other hand is completely rusted through in some spots so that's going to get cut out and a new one welded back in. As for the suspension piece I'm leaning more toward a small block for the power plant so I won't have to worry about beefin the front up. Probably more than likely going to get a 350 and possibly stroke it, then try to find a T56 for the tranny, and run some 3:73's in the rear.

Got the sub frame out from underneath it today and started to seam weld and grind all the rust off. After I get it completely torn down, seam welded, and grinded down, I am going to give it a coat of Por-15 and reassemble. The body bushings and bolts were so rusted I was suprised the sub frame hadnt broke free from the body.

One side seam welded and grinded, the other not.

good job,ur doing great work i will be watching, wow wasnt u just a little bit nervouse doing the ladder trick, keep up the good work.
Much appreciated! And with the make shift engine puller I was a little nervous, but I knew it would hold the weight it was just a matter of getting the ladders situated in the right place. If it got to hairy I was going to chop a 2x4 and post it underneath the 6x10 beam running from it to the ground to give it more support, but the beam took the weight really well, it bent a little which was expected but it didnt make a sound, not a crack or creak the entire time.

Much appreciated VFW, and as for the "Tank" got to dive into the sub frame today for a good while and got a lot done. Got it torn pretty much all the way down except for a few things, and got most of it wire wheeled, and all of the seams on the top welded. Its coming along pretty good. Ordered some parts for it today off of Summit, including a gallon of Por-15, and jesus is that stuff expensive, but it will be worth it. Also for those of you who have rust and using a wire wheel is taking way to long, which it does, my dad turned me on to these poly carbide abrasive wheels, and im sure most of you already know about them but for those who dont, they are not expensive, I think mine cost about 5 bucks at harbor freight for a 4 1/2 inch grinder, and they are absolutely amazing, cuts time spent grinding down by about 70% and the end product is way better. Also got my new radiator support in today that I bought off of Ryan 79, mine was completely worthless it was rusted in several spots completely through, and of course they dont make a reproduction one for the 79 year model, so Ryan 79 set me up.
