I agree with Jake, if your starting out with nothing, an OD is the way to go, you have lots of benifits, if you have a good tranny & not much converter slip, a GV might be a good idea. another consideration is HP total.

if you are running a loose converter and a street/strip deal, and need an OD, and have over 500-600 HP, the best deal is a 4L80E with a lockup converter.
I agree.
Either option is going to be some work and a couple grand. The locking converter is a big bonus.

I am making around 550hp on motor and will be spraying another 250-300hp which is why I am looking into the Gear Vendors in the first place. A built 700R4 is still not the strongest tranny out there. A built 4L80E with a good lock up converter, electronics, etc. will cost at least as much as the GV.

If you have motor plates and want to install a GV unit in a 2nd gen, get the torch out. You need to be able to drop the back end of the motor a little to get it to clear the tunnel. But if you're in the position I was in and have plates installed, you'll need a little help from a Zizzz wheel and/or a blue tip wrench.

Man you should talk to Camcojb's tranny guy... he is doing 200R4's rated to well past 1000 HP and streetable. They ain't cheap, but I was really impressed with the unit that was in his 540-procharged 69 Camaro

Jody's tranny guy was Bruce Toelle at PTS in Sacramento.
A 200-4R isn't the trans of choice at 1000 HP or even 800.
You can have a 4L80E and peace of mind for what a 800 HP capable 200-4R costs.

Bruce is a character!
Heavily into the Turbo Gran Nationals and a crazy 700R4 and 200 R4 tranny builder!

I had one of his 700R's built for a GM sport truck that would shift so hard it would bark chunks of asphalt as it kicked into the next gear. I would love to drive that truck on the street and scare the heck of someone in the next lane!

Definitely someone to talk to!

Bruce is south of Sacramento.

A bit of information for anyone doing business with Bruce at PTS.
I've purchased stuff from Bruce and been disappointed with the product as have others but that's how it goes sometimes.
However I used to plug Bruce's products on these message boards until he decided he (and an employee) would shill bid his car on Ebay.
That speaks volumes about his business ethics to me.

No thanks...

Pretty well known about in the TB.com community.

If you need 200-4R parts or a built unit I would suggest going to Chris at CKperformance, as he makes the specialty parts for them too. I think Chris is more versed in the hydraulics of these units also.

Caveat Emptor....
