I picked up a BBC a while back but now it is starting to get in the way. I am thinking of selling but can you advise me on its value. Block is disassembled here are its specs:

Block: 3696854 I 15 9 (Sept 15 1969) 396/402 4bolt main
-current bore is 4.155(there's are some vertical striations in the bores indicated that the motor was rung too tight.
-the bottom of all the cylinder jackets have been tapped drilled and plugged (to allow for draining of the block?)
-the block appears to have been decked as the ID code that is stamped in the block behind the alternator has been milled away.

Crank: 6223 7115 (forged, Nitrided, cross drilled, 5140 steel)

Heads: 396 Oval port 2.06 IN/ 1.72 EX
3931063 ('69-'70 396 325/350 L-34/L35) A 20 9 Jan 20 1969
3909802 ('66-'67 396 325/350 L-34/L35) B 22 7 Feb 22 1967
-heads appear to have been professionally ported

Rods: GM dimple rods with full floating wrist pins
Valve covers: Chrome Moroso
Pan: Extra capacity
Intake: Edelbrock TM2 (not TM2-0) this is the original version
Rockers: CRANE they are GOLD ratio is unknown
Lifters: unknown make Solid lifter

CAMSHAFT: unknown make looks to be a custom grind
The snout has a C with an slightly overlapping D 311-08R with 316 below the 311 on the left side of the face 12-21R and at the bottom of the face Y403

The bad part is they are not cheap to build so it is hard to sell a motor that is all apart

I appreciate all the help, thanks guys.

How is a 396/402 more expensive to build? You use the same components...and 454's have a nasty habit of the lifter bores being off center.(unless its a *NEW* block)

Sell me the crank. Run the rest on craiglist. With mismatched heads, you're not going to get a lot for it, assembled or in parts.

How are the heads mismatched? They are the both L-34/L-35 heads, both are closed chamber, same port design, same combustion chambers, same valves, springs, rockers, the only difference is the casting number...

I am not going to sell the crank separate from the rest of the rotating assembly as it has all been balanced together and I am definitely not going to sell a 7115 crank for $75

...Did you know that in 2002 you could get a brand new Camaro that had a motor from 98, 99-00, 01 LS1, 01-02 LS6...they all had 01 LS1 or 01-02 LS6 heads though. using left over parts was not all that uncommon for GM...in fact in '98 your F body could have come from the factory with a Corvette camshaft...they ran out of Fbody cams.

The pistons in stock,.030,.060 are more expensive than more popular 454 offerings.
The 3.76 stroke is only good for 396/402/427,everyone else uses 4.00 and up and different length rods to get their monster motors.
The early 396 motors were only around for a few years, much more 454 blocks are still available.
I'm building a 396,with a stock bore, and am running into problems locating everything at a decent cost.
Parts are available, but it takes some searching.

^^+1^^

You can put a 454 crank into that block and make a stroker 396. But as for pistons, they are more expensive than the bigger CI parts.

My brother in law had a 396 in his Chevelle. He cracked a cylinder. He went looking for blocks, and up here they are two-three times more expensive than 454's. Then he priced good pistons, again...more expensive. Needless to say he ended up building a 461 and sold all his 396 parts on CL.
