I am close to starting my engine after about 5 months - the water passages are likely rusty and full of stuff. I want to clean the block out before start-up, but I don't want to flush this stuff into my new radiator.

Have you ever done a block flush out? Maybe poured prestone flush and water into it and let it drain out? Lemme know

I think the Prestone flush stuff has to get up to operating temperature to work correctly.

You say the passages are full of stuff? If the radiator isn't hooked up, cap the lines off and use a garden hose to flush thru heater ports. This should knock most of the heavier stuff loose.

Good suggestion. I can flush out whatever big stuff is there......and then get it started and then do a Prestone flush.
