Can you post a link to the thread that the person used the 5th gen console.

No problem, here is the link that I borrowed the idea from. I haven't mounted it yet but it fits really well. I have a vintage air unit that hits the right front side panel of the console slightly so I'll have to trim it back but other than that I didn't see any issues. My console was super cheap but didn't have the insert where the shifter goes so I plan on making one out of plexiglass.

so does the stock automatic shifter fit this console?

I personally have not tried the stock 73-81 auto shifter, I was planning to use the 2010-15 auto shifter, but after talking with another member the other week I may have to switch directions with the shifter. Now this other member did use a Hurst quick silver for a second gen in the 2010-15 console in his car.

Started working on the pass rear 1/4 patch and cut out a small section to see what I'm dealing with. Doesn't look too bad behind it.
