I've been looking for a set of replacement seats for my car and may have found some. They're '74 Type LT seats. They need reupholstered and I'd like to change from their current worn-out cloth and foam to '72 standard vinyl. It looks like replacing the seat foam and upholstery should be all that's really needed (and dying the seat back and other small pieces the correct color).

So, am I correct? Is the frame of the '74 LT seat the same as the frame for a '71-'74 standard seat? Can I change the foam and replace the cloth with '72 vinyl, or is there a difference between the frames that will prevent this from working?

The 74 Type LT seat has a different shape on the backrest than the 71-73 standards.

The 74 is tapered in near the top and flat instead of rounded.

I know the backrest shape is different. But the question is whether or not the seat foam accounts for the difference, or if the actual frame is different. If the '71-74 frames/sliders are all the same - which I suspect they are - then the upholstery should be interchangeable as long as the matching foam is used, correct?

Cue-Ball,

You may be able to do this with the early foam and upholstry but I have seen parts of the of the backrest frame that is slightly different.

You may be able to trim or modify the foam a bit but I assume it would gather and bunch up in places and not look smooth and tight.

Does anyone know for sure or maybe have comparison pictures of a 71-73 standard seat versus a 74+ LT seat? I'm getting conflicting reports and really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on seats, foam, and upholstery only to find that they won't fit one another.

I was told by yearone, ecklerscamaro, andclassic Industries that the seat frames are the same from 1971-1977.
