No way a '70 Camaro with BBC/TH400 is 4000 lbs. Unless the driver is 300+.

A BBC is only about 150 lbs heavier at most than a SBC. Seems it is less than 125 lbs difference.
A TH400 is about 15 lbs heavier than a TH350.

So maybe a 165 lb increase over SBC curb weight which wasn't that high on the early 2nd Gens.

Just for a point of reference,
my '69 Chevelle is 3620 with 1/4 tank gas and a BBC, TH400, 12 bolt, AND a full frame that the Camaro doesn't have.

The M-21 is much lighter than a TH400 so again we are looking at ~200lbs
Look at the old road tests - they show 3700lbs for a the 70 Z28

My '73 with the 454/400 combo (before the T56 transplant) + approx. 80-100 lbs of audio amp/boombox in the trunk (for better tranction of course) weighed 3,850lbs. Curb, no driver.
Iron block, alum heads.
Hope this helps.

WHY are Camaros so dang heavy?? I know the doors are around 120 lbs. each, but there is no full frame or anything like that to add weight. The title for my old '70 Chevelle stated only 3400 lbs. with a SBC and TH-350. It was a MUCH bigger car with a full frame!

Musculo,
Is it an A/C car?
How much fuel?
18-22 gallon tank at ~6 lbs per gallon for gas adds up..

My car will not hook unless it has a full tank.

So about 3800 with iron heads and no stereo stuff..

The '73's were a little heavier because they had additional bumper bracing. Not much though.

I never weighed my '72 with the 454 and T56 or TH350. My uncle's milling company has some very accurate scales, as well as my work that I can use anytime... Need to start weighing stuff.

Seems like Brian callahan has some pretty accurate weights on SBC vs. BBC, etc.. there is a weight database on here somewhere.

I'll do some digging ans see if I can come up with more weights.

No way a '70 Z with SBC, Muncie, No A/C, weighed 3700 even with a full tank.

My blue 70 with a SBC weighs 3,600 without me in it ,1/4 tank of gas, no AC,PS,PB, heater, back seat, and has the door bar braces taken out. That weight is with a glass hood!
I would say a BB car in similar shape would weigh around 3,750.
