In the "real world" the EB engines do not get any better fuel economy than the 5.0L. I talked about this with the sales manager at a local Ford dealership down the street from me last year. His personal truck was an F-150 Platinum with the 5.0L. He said the EB was too quiet for his tastes, and he preferred the 5.0L. I asked about the fuel economy thing and he said he has driven both EB F-150 and his current at the time 5.0L, and he said there was basically no difference in day to day driving fuel consumption that he noticed. Both were 4x4. I drove his Platinum F-150 at his insistance, I guess he figured to 'convert' me over to Fords. Of course that didn't happen. ;)

That makes sense, I would imagine all of their EPA testing is done when that motor is out of boost. But to go anywhere, it will have to be into boost = bad fuel mileage.

As a long time GM loyal person,let me just say"I will never buy another GM product!"

I drive a 2010 E350 at work and should be getting a new van in May.We have gotten rid of almost all the Chevy Express vans and replaced them with Fords.These trucks are on the road seven days a week and log a ton of miles.I have 103K on my truck with no major problems,just normal maintenance.One store still has an Express van that spends most of it's time being repaired.All these vehicles have multiple drivers and no two people drive the same,so that tells me which truck is the most reliable.

If I needed a new truck,I wouldn't be going to a GM dealer.JMHO!

I hear ya. Ive been GM loyal my whole life also.
Few cheap used imports here or there.

New truck wil be a Ford tho.
Work dropped GM too, got F150s and E250s.
5,000 employees in our market, of course not all get vehicles

Here's the cam tensioner on a high mileage ford 4.6 engine. Yes....the plastic can wear out.
"Check out the damage to my cam tensioner and guide. The driver-side tensioner arm was worn completely through to the point where the tensioner’s hydraulic piston was making contact with the timing chain."

Looking at your OP photo, Ford changed the design of the cam tensioner to prevent this from happening. The plastic guide is much thicker on the new engine.

Three of our best customers are landscapers. The biggest of the three has 70 employees and a huge fleet of trucks, just Fords and Chevrolets. The oldest truck they have is an 03 Chevy. They are absolutely finished buying Fords. Ralph, the manager was just telling us that the Fords have never once all made it through a snowstorm without a blown transmission, electrical malfunction or other breakdown, rendering it able to finsih the job. These guys run their business like the Pentagon, they have a war room that will blow your mind. They track every penny and the Fords are costing them a ton more to keep running.
The other two guys are smaller, one has 37 Chevrolets and one Ford with a Powerstroke. They had the same feeling about the Ford. It just sits there rotting away, they are sick of fixing it.
Finally the smallest of them all has about ten trucks, all older, again a mix of Ford and Chevrolet. Frank, the owner was just in our shop swearing off any more Fords due to the cost of keeping them running and loss of use to down time. He's having us build him a Chevy crew cab now.
Oh yeah and there's the builder up the street who has had Fords forever. He always had the cleanest looking, loaded up F350s all lettered up nicely, aluminum racks, nice wheels and kept like new. Same story, all done with the broken Fords, just bought two Chevrolets.

Save your breath these guys will just have to learn the hard way. We are a small lawn care company and used to have ford trucks. They were all worthless POS and finally enough was enough.

This one has over 200K and 99% of it is still original right down to the rotors and the "weak" independent front suspension and steering even after being beat to death towing and plowing its entire life.

But yup those damn GM trucks are royal POS I guess. We know 3 large heating and air conditioning company owners that have all switched away from ford and over to GM. The LSX, 6L90E and 14 bolt rear is a trouble free bullet proof powerful combo no matter how you slice it. And they are easy to work on under the hood if you ever had too but that is unlikely.

The majority of my fleet customers run GM trucks. Those that run Fords wish they didn't. Especially those that have Ford diesels.

One customer's former in house tech was a former Ford tech. He convinced them to go with nothing but Fords - because he knew how to fix them. Talk about wanting job security. He no longer works there...;)

From what I have heard and seen I won't disagree with you there.
They finally mastered perfection in the combo.

I don't know how their longevity is to give it a total thumbs up though.
I do remember hearing Jake say the 6L80e's kinda shift clunky.

BTW That lawn is perfection......I wish mine looked as sweet as that. :eek:
