Several social media posts, and comments on stories written on other digital media platforms, have uninformed readers claiming that they no longer make anything anyone wants because nobody is building hot rods anymore. WHAT THE F*&K? Here is one of the good ones. “I mean there isn’t really any market for their biggest products anymore – the automotive industry has long changed away from those kinds of things. Sure there’s the people fixing up and hot-rodding older vehicles but even those aren’t nearly as common anymore due to rust and such things.”

It's hard not to think that way when I go to these local car shows and the average owners of these cars is getting over ~60 years old. I'm almost 48 and I feel like a kid when I roll up. Yeah, I see a guy in his 20's or 30's every now and then, but not enough of them to make me think that overall the industry isn't in decline.

Maybe it's different in other states and locales?

It seems like a lot of business are escaping California. From what I've read, it's seems a lot like my home province of Ontario. Crushing taxes, onerous environmental regulations, a bureocracy that's thick as concrete, and a general societal shift in attitude against manufacturing. Also, a generally unwelcome political attitude toward business (and freedom of any kind) spell-out a third-world future for the economy and l ingenuity and self-reliance in general.

Well, Edelbrock is just a division of a much bigger company these days anyway. Much like so many other old famous performance companies.

Isn't just 'famous performance companies'- it's everywhere- "investment groups", "hedge funds" and whatever other title of the week being used, the speculators come out, buy up as much of a market segment as they can, pour the bean counters on the place to figure out how to cheapen the product line, sell off any assets that can be relocated or replaced for less, then turn around and try and sell the operation to the next "group" or "fund" to have a go-round. Depending on one's perspective, this could be viewed as either the 21st Century version of '80s corporate raiding, or attempts at creating monopolies (or at least oligopolies) in order to control pricing.

a generally unwelcome political attitude toward business

I would tend to disagree with this statement. Politicians don't seem to really care much about small businesses, but governments at most levels across North America seem to spend an undue amount of time, money and effort propping up large-scale enterprises (banks, airlines, whatever) in some corporate welfare mentality (or, where the donations come from and the post-politics career options exist).

Our brand new neighbors bought the house across the street, just moved in. They are both California natives.
They have told us of unspeakable things...........
