Engine cleaning

Now that spring semester is finally over I can finally reassemble my engine, but I have a question about how to clean the block and cylinder heads. I got the block back from the machine shop last summer oiled and plastic wrapped because I told him that it was going to sit for a while, and I belive he told me to just hose it off thouroughly then dry it with an air compressor, does this sound adequate? Also I ported the heads, so what would be the best way to ensure I get all of the crap cleaned out of them? Thanks for any advice!

Take it all to a coin-op car wash, and use the soap and pressure washer.

WHILE you're there........

Get a couple cans of WD-40 and spray it all down AFTER you're done rinsing it off with hi pressure (after the soap phase). You MIGHT want to get some long brushes to run thru to make sure everything is cleaned out - journal holes, gallery holes, etc...

Then hit it all up with WD-40 til you get home to hose it all out with air....then get to assembly work
