headlights dont work! help!

hey guys my headlights and my parking lights dont work on my 80 camaro z28. the parking lights work when i put the signals on, all the other lights work. i tried testing the headlight with a tester and got nothing, i dont know if im using the tester wrong. please help and also tell me where to put the red and black tester wires and what setting to put it on. thanks!

It might be actual switch itself inside the car.
When you rotate the lightswitch handle, do the interior lights dim?
Anything different happen from when they DID work? or did you buy it this way?

the interior lights dont have a bulb and when i bought it the lights did work then just stopped.

Would the dimmer switch cause the parking lights not to work? I used to have to step on mine and get it in the right spot for my headlamps to work but even when the headlamps were out the parking lamps still worked. I replaced mine and do not have the problem anymore.My guess is its in the headlight switch.
