My rear end is a 12 bolt posi and I assume it's the original rear housing since my car is a 1970. However, it was rebuilt and c-clip eliminators were installed along with a new 373 posi unit. It looks like the original axles were retained since they still have the c-clip grooves. Here's what I hope to do. Get rid of the c-clip eliminators and use the Moser 7900 axle ends and big Ford bearing, then install Gen III factory disc brakes. Neither Strange nor Moser appear to offer an axle set that will accommodate my choices (I need 29.75 30 spline non-c-clip axles) . Looks like I'm now faced with a $2500 full rear end swap or ?????? Any guidance would be appreciated

The axles will have to be custom made for that. Moser makes them every day. The stock length for a 2nd gen Camaro axle is 30 1/8 inches. If you eliminate the c clip button then it's going to be close to what you have listed. Be sure that the ends are welded on by someone who knows what they are doing. A housing can be easily ruined when doing this. I'm having to try to replace the axle tubes in a '66 Chevelle 12 bolt because someone didn't do the welding correctly.

If you are going to install Camaro disc brakes then you might want to use the 7900FM housing ends. If you use the 7900 ends then the caliper brackets are probably going to need to be counter bored to clear the axle bearings. The 7900FM ends eliminate the need for added machine work.

Any GM brake caliper bracket is going to be flat on the back side. The 9 inch Ford axle bearings stick out from the standard housing ends about .125", so the back side of the GM brackets must be counter bored to fit over the bearing by .125". If you use the 7900FM housing ends then the bearing will fit flush with the housing end and no machine work is required on the brackets.

BGH - again THANKS for the help. Talked to Moser and they recommended the 7900FM (Flush Mounted duh... :) ) but they're pretty pricey for all the pieces and if I add in the labor for the housing work I may be smarter to sell my existing rear and buy a complete unit... decisions, decisions. Now I may have to decide on the new 12 bolt or the Dana 60.

Also if you are using any hub centric wheels the brake pilot may not be long enough to engage the wheel with a disc brake rotor as they are thicker than a drum brake. Moser would not do anything, Strange said they might could start with an 8.8 axle blank which has a longer brake pilot. Dutchman can make them with a longer pilot.
