Hey all,
Just trying to get an idea on how long your clutches last in our cars. I have a kevlar/metallic dual friction one, and was told to break it in for 150 miles. I admit i did one 3k drop to get a little smoke in the first 20 miles....hope i didnt ruin it

My 70SS has the original factory clutch and it works like new yet. My daily driver Chevy 4x4 also has its original clutch and it works great. I use them hard when I need to, but I know how to drive a clutch. Many people don't have the '"feel" to drive a manual tranny without burning the clutch.
Camaro=36 years
Pickup=25 years

I have had some that lasted 100,000 + miles, and some around 10,000 - 15,000 when I was a young guy. It depends if it is setup right and how you drive.

Im going to take mine to a shop so they can get the linkage adjustment spot on soon. I know how to drive a stick, especially older ones. Im just hoping this isnt going to die on me in 500 miles or so.

In the past, I replaced 4 speeds more often than clutches. :)

Surprisingly enough, the clutch in the POS now is a Centerforce dual friction, and a billet steel flywheel... yet somehow I the pressure plate and the flywheel are blued and discolored.
It was pretty torquey with the blower, but I mean... come on...

what's a clutch ?? is that something your supposed to use when shifting ?? . i was brought learning how to shift a manual trans without using a clutch ,it's very easy to do once you've learned the technique . while i was driving large 5 ton and above trucks i never used the clutch even when leaving a stoplight .

I had over 120,000 miles on the original clutch in the 81 when I had it replaced - and only because it started to "chatter" in reverse. Guess what - the one I had put in does it, too!

I have heard of this.......and even had a freind that was driving my Camaro show me...To him it was easy, and made it look like no big deal.

When I tried it OMG there was no way it was working for me.

The clutch on my Camaro went out around 40,000 mi.....
which was way too soon.
the clutch on my Tacoma is still going with 120,000 mi....
so I have to say it's not the way that I drive that caused the Camaro's to go early
