How much would it cost (approximately) to replace the clutch in a 70 Camaro? Barring them finding lots of damage.

I am considering buying a 70 in Washington but the clutch is out and it may be cheaper to have the work done up there and then drive it back rather than tow it back.

This may not help you much because I live in a different part of the world but...a decent shop should be able to do the whole thing within an 8 hour stint....my guys up here charge $50 an hour..

A shop is going to charge you apprx 500.00. They are going to have to pull the tranny.
the clutch alone is going to cost 140 or so for a new stock unit depending on what "they charge". Plus the shop is going to charge you for resurfacing the flywheel yada... yada...
its going to be kinda expensive. Can you do it yourself?

If you don't have a place to do it yourself, you kinda need to have a shop do it there. It's not going to be cheap. Cheaper than towing though.

Someone here on the board mentioned that I should just do it on the side of the road and drive it home. Then once it's home I can tear it back down and make sure everything is in spec. I might do that.

I am guessing that if the tolerances aren't quite correct all I can do is put undue wear on the clutch plates and possibly screw up the flywheel?
Any thoughts?
