How much of a factor does gearing play on converter slip?

Currently with 3.23's and my 3200 stall I have approximately 10% slip at WOT at the 1/4 mile stripe. With everything else remaining the same going to a 3.90 gear will have what effect on converter slip? I figure it will slip less, being there is less resistance, but how much?

Changing gears will make very little difference in the slip. You are still applying pretty much the same torque to the same mass at WOT. It will make a difference in part-throttle operation as you will experience greater acceleration rates with the same throttle. I once put 3.00 gears in my car and noticed that my converter would spool up more during normal street driving than it did with 4.10's, mostly because I wanted to accelerate at the same rate.

You''ll just have to test it and see. I don't know any of the build specs on your converter.

Higher rpm makes the converter more efficient to a point. So it should reduce the slip. How are you measuring it? Datalogger?

No just estimating. At the stripe I am at 4900-5000rpm. My time slip is at 107mph but I know it is actually a little higher than that at the stripe. How much I do not know.

26" tall tire with 3.23's at 5000rpm is 119.8mph.

so with a 107mph actual mph at the stripe i figure 10.7% slip. If I am actually at 110mph it is 8.2% slip.

Is there a better way of figuring it out?

FWIW it is a converter from bowtie overdrives, 9 or 9.5" converter with an 11" lock up clutch. It could be tighter for sure, and I would very much so like it tighter with the same flash, but I'll have to see how it acts after the 3.90's.
