ed, i used the basic third gen rotor because the wheel placement will be the same as if i were running my current setup now. the 3rd gen rotor is not as deep as a second gen. if i were to use a second gen rotor it would put my wheel placement roughly 1/4" outward on the spindle. i woulda had some serious fitment issues then with my wheels and tires i have been using for the past couple of years. i hope that makes sense but if not go here for a better explanation. :bowtie:

Nope, makes perfect sense and I understand. I use different hubs in my 13" C4 HD setup for that same reason.

Tommy,
Are you planning to use C5 rotors at the rear also?

I realize there is an issue with the ebrake, but I think I may go this route...C5's all around and worry with ebrake at a later date. I keep eyeing all those those brackets for the front and rear on Kore3's site.

john yes i am. kore 3 is working on a ebrake setup as we speak for the c5. and since i had metric rears w/no ebrake i figured what the heck.

i got my rear c5's on this weekend and bleed. they are great. the main reason i changed up the rears was piston size on my metrics. they are large x big. i already had the master i wanted to use and was not going to waver one way or another. the master i used is the cpp deal with built in prop vavle. its bore is 1" so the big x large honking pistons was giving me good brakes but a spongy pedal. so this all started as a rear and then i found some front caliper and abutments on ebay for 140 so i went ahead and decided to do fronts to. i might start a thread about brake master porn. below is the pic. like i mentioned there is no need to plumb in a prop valve. and a 1" bore is ideal for the c5 swap. this is a non power assist set up...as you can see.

Tommy, you are a brake changing mad man. Good luck and I hope it all comes out to your liking better than the old setup.

matt it arleady has. seems to whole time my big problem was the rear disks and the size to the caliper piston. even without the c5's on the front yet the brakes are great and the pedal is awesome. it drops about a 1" then the brakes it. i was worried that fancy master i used was too small. thats what made me rethink this whole deal. all is well now :p

Tommy,
Do you have the part number or a link to where you got the master cylinder? I looked at the cpp site and the only masters that I saw where knock-offs of the OEM style master cylinder. I'm also not sure about whether to stay with power assisted or go completely manual.

So let me get this straight...

you buy a 3rd gen rotor.

Cut the brake part of it off.

Replace the outer wheel bearing with a 2nd gen bearing

grind off a bit of the hub (the bolts will center it, right? that little weight loss so close to the center of rotation probably won't make it wobble)

stick a big shtonkin corvette brake rotor on top (c5 brakes are vette brakes... right?)
and a stock vette caliper

and a new master cylinder? or can you re use a camaro cylinder?

and... 17" wheels?

and you're off to the races?

genius.
