Really sorry to hear about your motor. Hopefully, it's not catastrophic. If it is, perhaps consider getting a later model Camaro with an LS3.

My .02? I would source a used 6.0 iron block with 24 tooth reluctor crank. Catheral heads so your 01 intake will bolt right up. Mild rebuild of the 6.0. Small cam. I like LS3's but since it is a 58 tooth crank reluctor it doesn't work with a 2001 Camaro ECM.
I think you will struggle to find a nice LS1 block.

Ah - that's rough. Aluminum LS' block's don't take kindly to rebuilds, they are only allowed to bore .005 over for fear of shifting the bore-sleeves.

The good news is that almost all LS motors are interchangeable with minor mods (like sensor relocations). GM still sells an LS3 crate engine for ~ $10K that's a bargain.

Wish I lived closer, I'd be all over that! I have an aluminum 6.0 looking for a home.
Figures you're in Canada (with tariffs), or I'd be talking to you about that right now. I want to build an LS2 for the Corvette and 6.0 Aluminum blocks are hard to find around here. Last virgin LS2 block I saw was selling for $2000+ shipping.
I'll probably end up doing an LS3 Frankenstein (LS3 short block with Cathedral port heads) to keep the car looking factory.

Might have busted a rod, GM used powdered metal rods in those 1st LS engines I am told. Sad to see that happen. Just get an early 5.3 and bore it out to the same as the 5.7 and add a new rotating assy. A little heavier on the nose of the car but you can drive it again.
They use powdered metal in all LS's except a very few. They really are extremely strong but can't compress water

Again my .02. A 58 count crank engine many of the sensors are different from the 24 count crank engine. Knock sensors. Cam sensor. Crank sensor. And I'm sure I'm missing others.
Putting cath heads on a LS3 would be a step backwards IMO. 6.0 to 6.2 you only gain 12 CI.
Didn't say if you have a stick or auto but if you running an auto the LS3 needs a ECM for the engine and a separate ECM for the auto trans.
Before you pull the trigger on anything I would talk to a tuner to see what would be better/easier.
So one other thought. I believe Summit Racing and Blueprint sells a complete 6.0 long block with a 24 tooth crank.

The LS3 heads and intake are vastly superior to the LS1 heads.
You can run a Lingenfelter box to adapt a 58x motor to a 24x ECM, sensors are actually not that bad
