Rather than pressing this on and off do you see any problem using a dummy bearing for set up. I started out with it but started getting paranoid it would move. Both bearings are same brand just inside is ground out.

I used a set-up bearing on my 10 bolt and worked out perfectly. However Both bearings were new...Both were Timken. Had one of them oversized so it would slip on. Of course, the set-up would still have to be verified with the actual bearing, but mine was dead on the same.
I’ve always used a ground out bearing for set up but this thing has fought me more than any of them so I started just pressing it on and off thinking some magical way the two bearings could be different. Both are national bought the same day from the same place. I had a 7.5 move once between bearings and I’ve been paranoid ever since.
OEM GM gears or aftermarket? We recently did an '81 10 bolt 8.5" rear with Yukon 3.73's. 1st set we could not get a good pattern, Yukon sent a second set which we were able to set up properly. My OEM GM 4.10's also set up without a problem.
Aftermarket. They’re Quick performance. All I seen was good reviews on them before I ordered them. Everything I’ve ever messed with in the past were either Motive, Ford Racing, or GM and I’ve never had this much problem.
