On heat-only kick panels, what does the top knob connect to? Its just connected to a lawn mower-style throttle cable, but the cable doesn't hook to anything on the panel. The bottom knob operates the flap. This was an ac car that I changed over to heat only and I cant figure out where this kick panel cable is suppose to hook too?

On the heat only cars, there are another set of vents that attach to openings in the cowl that is under the dash.
The second set of cables operate these.

You can see in the pic below, where the vents attach to. Directly below the dash metal. on both sides.

Here is what the upper air chambers looked like before I removed them to install Vintage Air. These chambers are mounted to the rear of the vents at each end of the dash. That is 33 years of dust & dirt.

Great pics guys! :D

This is why it's so difficult to completely swap an A/C car to a non-A/C car... There are so many pieces involved to make everything work right when making the conversion.

I thought my car was a non A/C car becouse it has the non A/C cover under the hood. On the inside though it has the A/C style kick panels and the ducts look nothing like the ones above. My dash pad has the center vents also, but not the thin ones that screw on at the bottom of the dash. I need to change my heater core and now I wonder which one of these I will need to get. I guess someone just pulled all the A/C stuff from under the hood and changed the cover with a heat only car.

If you have the center vent, it was an AC car.

I found some more photos of the interior with the dash removed. You can see the V shaped chamber in the center that goes to the defrosters.

The pictures below are of the piece that hooks up to the center AC vent on a factory AC car. I bought this piece with the intention of making it work when I installed Vintage AC, but it didn't work.

How do i hook up the cable to operate the cowl vents? Where does it hook to? I have the dash in the car so I don't have a ton of room. Can the cable be hooked up to operate the cowl vents with the dash in place in the car?

Spoon......my car was AC from the factory and I believe it has the vents that you said come on heat-only cars. I know if I have my hood open and if i look down into the cowl screen I can see a vent on each side of the car. Are these the same vents that are in that picture?

What would happen if i leave the kick panel cable in question unhooked?

My car originally came with AC. I put an ac block-off plate in the engine compartment, a heat-only heater core, and that is all I have changed. The reason I switched out the kick panel on the passenger side is because its was cracked and falling apart. Im replacing the stock ac kick panel with a heat only kick panel to get rid of the vaccum modulator Im leaving the driver side ac kick panel on because its a pain in the butt to get out of there.
