Never thought about a gas engine compressor, how do they compare to belt driven oiled compressors? NT has this one that is within my price range:

Wait...you need QUIET and you are considering GAS ENGINED compressors? The noise from an oiled compressor is not the motor, an electric motor makes no sound, the noise is from the compressor cylinders themselves as they compress the air (thumpa thumpa thumpa). All the gas engine is going to do is add additional noise to that.

any of the "oil less" type are loud. You need a 2 stage. but even some of them are loud

You would have to leave a gas compressor out doors becouse of the fumes. Neighbors would probley complain.

I too would like to get a vertical, quiet compressor. I swear my Craftsman is louder than a jack hammer! Will be watching this thread.
