I lived in Eagan for yrs. Great area!!! If i had to move back i'd move to Eagan or Apple Valley. Close to work for you and a great area to raise a family!!!!

Ya got a damn good point, but every suburb has a ghetto was mine.
some are just waaaaay worse then others. Having never been there

Guys,

It's looking more and more like I'll be moving up there shortly. Any advice on buying a home there? What do I need to look for? What is important when buying a used home there? Most homes seem to have siding. Is there a way to tell if it needs to be replaced or repaired? Other than the obvious? I've never bought a house in the north before so I want to educate myself on what to look for.

Also, what do you guys pay in utilities? What's you average gas/electric/water etc?

Just throw out anything you guys can think of to educate me on living there other than "it's cold" etc... LOL!

Don't do it stay away, It too cold, We have too much snow. Now that you have heard the bad news it time for the good news, We do get summer but it only last through the month of July. LOL There are some good deals on houses up here right now, Just stay away from North Mpls. It's a bad area

If you like minorities, gang members, and a dieing town go ahead and move there. I'm liking the NW metro ALOT more. The car scene is way better as well.

When you say NW area, where do you mean exactly?

I think Pats talking about Rogers, Elk River, Big Lake area. But that would make for a long commute. 494 which is one of the main roads that brings you by the MOA is one of the busiest freeways during rush hour. It's can be bumper to bumper even on the weekends. Hwy 77 also runs close by but is not nearly as busy. Like I mentioned before check into Lakeville. Bigger lots,lower taxes and right off of some main highways.

Yea, I'm looking at Lakeville and that whole area around Lakeview as well. I just want to keep my options open.

I would wait for summer to look at houses, snow can cover things, and no shady characters will be hanging around outside for you to see when its 10 below. That said, good luck, MN is a pretty decent state (though personally I wouldn't want to live in the cities).
