Agreed.

The 79-81 Camaro dash is CHEESE.
I am considering heavy modification of mine. Including an updated heater/vent setup.

Something bonnevilleesque i think. With heat vent "pods"
I'm also inserting a tablet into the dash, allowing touch and voice commands to incorporated electronics.

That looks interesting. What all are you going to use the tablet for? I'm considering a carPC setup for mine but that is still in the consideration phase.

Windows tablet = Everything.

If i can get a windows tablet, or a Rooted tablet of any kind with Ubuntu One O.S. (Linux), then the tablet will do everything. It will be a controller for audio, lighting, engine management, HVAC and more. (Anything a laptop can do, as Windows RT on a tablet is Windows 8, or Ubuntu one is Universal Linux)

I'm a computer technician and network designer, so mocking up usb and blutooth controllers is nothing.

I plan on having a 2000+ vortec install, so tuning it from touchscreen as well.

Basically running a small network inside your car. USB 3.0 solid state harddrives allows for limitless potential

"Edit"

-to do this, you need a central "server" (in the trunk), with wired and wireless controllers. The tablet would be the "interface" and 'remote desktop'. The computer is integrated into the car, and the tablet controls the computer. Essentially it would be a CarPC, but a more round-a-bout way, with almost limitless potential for upgrading/modification/ and customization. ie, blutooth out displays, gaming, gps, etc., and where available, wi-fi and voice over internet phone in car/radio

So I will be placing my order later this week for the PTFB solid body mounts and frame connectors. Then GW front springs within the month to lower the front an inch. I'm trying to decide if I should do the 1/2" lower with the body mounts or leave them factory setting since I am already lowering the suspension. Don't want the car to low to the ground.

Check out linux ICE (In Car Entertainment). It was a nice setup for a carputer, but I'm not sure if it is supported anymore. I know that it did allow touchscreen though.

If I still had my flat style dash I'd be considering this mod. I don't have a place for one at the moment. So I probably won't do it, but want to see other peoples version of a computer in the car.

UPDATE: Found the other backing plate I needed. Got it from hawksthirdgenparts.com. Got the site from the thirdgen.org site. I should be able to get the rest of the stuff from the autoparts store and be able to start this in about a month. Thinking I may wait till right after Christmas. Then on to the suspension upgrade right after that.
