Why can't I get a good LH stock caliper. I didn't even put this one on the housing was so f-ed up. One of the slider holes shaped like an egg. This is the 3rd one I've had to return for defect. Dammit. Cardone used to be a decent brand. No more.

wow big tree,,was it wind or lightning that downed it...

It was the strong winds that came through east tx from Ike...

I really hated to see that one go....that was my favorite place in the yard to spend the afternoons while sitting in the swing we had underneath it...

BUT, we are the lucky ones.......I am thankful that is all we lost...(and a little bit of meat in the freezer from 2 days with no electricity..)

I can't even begin to image how people on the coast are managing without homes, power, etc.

David, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family....
That has GOT to be ROUGH!!

Nice weekend so far. Got some cleaning and miscellaneous done around the house. Played outside with the kids in perfect 73° weather. And, just a bit ago, conducted a screen test/dry run for some upcoming fun for the neighbors-

12' wide image projected onto the side of the neighbor's house. It's way brighter than it appears in the pictures, and way brighter than I imagined.

All from this little setup-

My old projector (Infocus 4805) and portable DVD player hooked up component video.

For audio, we're going to use an FM transmitter, and boom boxes.

BYOB (bring your own blanket;) ), BYOP (popcorn;) ) and enjoy a movie on the lawn under the night fall sky.

The kids should get a kick out of it.:)

The power company came yesterday to hook the power back up, but there was one branch laying on the power lines that knocked out power to the whole block, and that branch happened to be in our back yard.

They couldn't/wouldn't fix the power line until that branch was cut down (it was about 40 feet up), so they left us in the dark, probably putting us at the back of the list (with over 1 million people still without power tonight, it's a long list). So it may be another week or more before they come back to our neighborhood.
24 families on our block are still without power because of that one branch.

Tree trimmers are hard to come by right now.

We had to make some phone calls, by the end of the day we actually had a crew of concrete contractors cutting trees in our yard, and I was out there in the middle of it helping.

I had 24 families wanting that tree off the power lines so we won't have to turn the power company away again.

Now it's all clear. but we are still without power.

Tonight is night 11 that I haven't been able to sleep in my bed, I'm getting just a little grumpy.
