Hi All,

I have a 1972 Z/28 that I just bought with a 350. I'm changing the oil and I didn't save the old filter. The filter that I bought is a Wix 51069 which is what the engine calls for. I've bought 2 other filters that are the same size. They fit but I have about a 1/4" of room in the housing where a wider filter will fit and gasket would fit better.

Does anyone know of a filter that fills up the entire housing and has a slightly bigger gasket? I'm looking for the shorter filter since I have headers.

Thanks

I use and like the Wix filter 51069. I wish I could remember the AC Delco filter I bought for my 71 a couple of oil changes ago it was a much shorter filter. Run down to your local parts store and check out their filters.

Are you looking for a "wider" filter? I don't remember a filter that filled the base circle. I have 1.75" headers and a GM mini starter. There's room for a Wix 51061, which is a bit longer but same width. There certainly may be something out there that I'm not aware of though.

Get the one without the drain-back valve.

The NAPA gold 1061 filter is made by Wix. I buy a case of Wix 51061.

1218 if you have room,or the 454,which I use on my truck to clear the shaft.

The original oil filter, in production, was the AC PF-25 oil filter. The longer PF-35 was also used in production. The only difference is the PF-35 is longer. On stock vehicles, almost everybody opted for the longer PF-35 as it was perceived to have more filter area inside of it.

In more recent times, seems like the shorter PF-25 became the PF-454 and the longer PF-35 became the PF-1218?

Enjoy!

Does the longer filter (PF-35 vs PF-25) have more filter material or is that just a perception? We used to run "truck" filters years ago.
