It has been 2+ years since I removed the dash from my 79 Camaro. I'm ready to go back together and cannot remember the correct order to reassemble. I'm trying to avoid putting something on and having to scratch it up removing it because something else should have gone first. I know the kick panels have to go in first. My guess is next comes the hard plastic lower dash parts and then the dashpad. Please speak up if this is not the correct order. I have a mint dashpad for my 79 and don't want to install it but once because I'm afraid I'll split it if I move it around too much.

Also, does anyone have the little switch that goes on the parking brake for the warning light? I don't think anyone repros that and mine is beyond repair.

Thanks!!

jhead55,

Part # 331960, found at least half a dozen places that carry that switch, but as you guessed, it's NOS. Check it out on Partsvoice.com.

As for the dash, I think you have it right. Unfortunately, the GM service manual only tells you how to replace specific dash parts, not the whole dash assembly. I just took out all my dash for a complete restoration. After taking it out piece by piece it seems to me that once you have the metal support brackets installed, you could assemble the complete lower plastic dash on the bench, and install it as one unit, because there is a number of screws that would almost be impossible to get at if you tried to install it piecemeal, especially while working upside down on your back. I really doubt that the assembly workers did that at the factory!
