OK, I hacked away on a new bucket and got the lights to fit into the revised bucket. However, when I tried to install the revised bucket into the car I found that the rear of the bucket (that I had removed) acts as a pivot point for adjustment i.e. there is a up/down adjustment screw and a left/right adjustment screw and the outer bucket pivots on the inner bucket. In order to get the light in I had to cut away all but the rim of the outer bucket and thereby eliminated that pivot point. SO, my conclusion is that my JW Speaker LED headlamps won't fit into the early Gen II cars. I called JWS and they do offer a conversion ring for motorcycles but after looking carefully at the specs and drawing I don't think that will work either.
If anyone has made this conversion work I'd like to know. I'm about to return the LEDs and order good halogens from Daniel Stern
