Years back when I was installing Refractory Gunning Plastics for the old APGreen Firebrick Company, Mexico, MO, Granite City Steel wanted a Research Engineer, two Salesmen and me to gun a material trial in the "B" Blast-furnaces tapout hole and trough area AT MIDNIGHT one Christmas EVE!
I was going down the back stairs over to talk to the Engineer about the up-coming job and as I went by the office of onna the V-P's, I heard this, "Hell NO, I'm not sending those two out on Christmas Eve, they got kids!"
Needless to say, that old hard-as-ed V-P was elevated a whole bunch in my eye's after that!!
But we did do the job round about the middle of May later around mid evening to midnight!!
And right at midnight break, the Steel Mill refractory maintenance crew helping us dropped our tools and left AND never did come back off break until after we finished the job!!
We also stopped for a bit after they left and went looking for them and when we got back some of our tools were gone so I just made off with three 3/4" x 50' , Chicago fittings water hoses!!
We got back to the motel at about 2:30 AM after a 6-pack a piece sitting on the curb in front of a closed Tavern right outside the Mill b/c we were beat to death and then had to come back and check the installation after they fired it in at 6:45 AM!
And as we went through the Front Gate, there the Crew was standing there grinning ear to ear using our tools!!
Yes, get an education so you won't have to put up with this stuff, even though you STILL WILL!
But at least you should get more money for having to do it!! Been there and worked for years and years 13.5 to 14 months for 12 months salary pay/year so tell me about it!!
