My wife and I took my 90 year old mother out to see it last night...she jokingly said that she thinks she'll be around in 2033 for the next one. :)

You need 5 things to take decent pictures of an event like this.
1. A good camera
2. A big lens
3. A understanding of how the camera works and how to change settings (ie not using auto functions)
4. Little to no ambient light (ie no street lights, flood lights, etc)
5. A tripod. No matter how steady you think you are, any movement at all in low light with the shutter open for a good amount of time will create blur.

Another would be no cloud cover! I set up my camera and watched for a few hours. At one point when it was nearly ½ eclipsed, the cloud cover came in and I couldn’t see anything till it went full eclipsed. When it went full eclipsed….wow! It really was red! I got a bunch of shots in before it was covered in the clouds again. It peaked back out for a very short time when it was ½ eclipsed again but I gave up at that point. Here is what I was able to shoot for those who missed it. I’m sure you can find better on the net by guys who have $5000 set ups with 3 foot lenses but I think I did alright with my $600 DSLR.

I had an excellent view of the eclipse from my motel balcony in Wildwood Crest NJ. Had an oceanfront room :D Unfortunately I'm home now :whine:
