Thanks for the kind words guys. I know it resembles the skull from deathproof, that is where I got the inspiration...just made a few subtle but noticeable changes on it. I too am skeptical of skulls and graphics in general, and I know we all want to add stuff like this, the hard part is making it tasteful.

I spent a lot of time thinking about shape, design, color, gloss, etc. and ultimately decided on this, so I am glad you guys think its nice. I've always said being tasteful is the hardest part about design. Around where I live a lot of people "murder out" their cars. Anything from a 1998 civic, to a 2010 porsche panamera. What they fail to understand is: Painting everything black isn't hard to do, everyone can paint everything black. The hard thing to do is offset all the black with just the right amount of chrome, or accents of some kind, so people look at it and see "I usually don't like this. But on this car it makes sense." That's what I was going for.

We all know skulls are completely played out, and some are amazingly detailed with amazing painting skills. My goal was to go backwards. Simple skull...simple paint...and re-establish the awesomeness of the skull that somehow got lost along the way. So again, thank you. Rant over.

These photo effects, however cheesy you might think they are...really capture the idea of the car. I am just going to take photos with these effects on my iphone 4 from now on.

Nice. this is the first time i saw the finished product. turned out better than i expected. usually people dont know how to do flat black and it just looks like the car is a big shadow hding a nice cars lines and curves, )like the flat black porsche turbo in my area, it looks terrible.) but i like yours a lot. I see what you are goin for; =simple. good eye man.
most people around the socal area just want to be "gangsters" (whatever that means) and put really tasteless 18" cheap black rims on black BMWs, blackout the tailights and fully accomplished turning nice cars into the worst they can possibly be. then there are the posers that are trying way too hard to make a POS foreign mobile all the sudden "Cool". its nice to see someone with a brain able to make a style everyone knows is cool actual look cool.

Thanks for the kind words Carbon. If you live in LA you know exactly what I am talking about...and it sounds like you have experienced it a few times first hand. Flat black usually looks like poo, but it's because it's not done right.

From the very beginning the goal of this car was to be the most bad ass car out of the late 70's early 80's feel. I think I've accomplished that for the most part. Will I ever do a satin black again? We'll see...it's a tough color to try and make look good. Although I must admit, I have had a few dreams about doing another car flat gold. Got to finish this one first though ha ha.

love the video and the car thomas!

know what caught my eye that goes along with your murdered rant? a brand new audi a6 with black wheels and a satin WHITE paint. has me thinking!!!!!!!

do you have a link the the cog belt drive that you used? im tired of drooling on my laptop and would rather drool on my radiator looking at it.

Before you go out and buy it...listen to the video...you can hear a high pitched sound when I rev it. That is the sound you will hear if you get the 2 inch cog belt. I think it's great, but I could imagine it annoying some people. Also, in retrospect, if I went with an electric fan setup instead of the fan I have, it would showcase the beauty of the belt system a lot better.

I am starting to become a believer that flat any color is awesome.
