I am not sure how it is being ignorant when I don't know a law exists.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but that is the definition of the word.

True, but I think he took it in the latter context.

Yeah it is a village "ordinance" ticket, the revenue goes to the village only.
No court, just a village "hearing".
I would go to your hearing and plead your case... what can it hurt

When the public is invited to do business in a plaza it is considered the same as a public road. Cops can write any ticket the want in parking lots...
I hope not.
I purposely blow thru stop signs(south philly slide) because I think I can, lol.(I thought because it wasnt a public road, but private property)

Yeah, no kidding. Something I love about the state I live in. That crap don't fly. There's only a handful of motor vehicle related citations you can get on private property here in GA. One of which is a DUI (they can cite you for that while driving drunk across your farmland). They can even cite you for driving a lawn mower across your yard while intoxicated. But, stop signs in a private parking lot = irrelevant.

I'll give you one batter then that, that was also in GA. Me and a buddy was at his grandmothers house doing some repairs. He decided to go to his can and get a CD out. Cop pulled up behind him in the driveway and gave him a DUI. Told the officer he wasn't driving or going anywhere, which he couldn't because the keys were in the house. The problem was he was in the drivers seat and the beer was on the dash.

Look up the specific law and see how it is worded. I find it unlikely that any truck anywhere can be ticketed for no inspection. Otherwise if I was a cop I would run down to the local junkyard and write a whole book full of tickets for all the non0operational trucks there that don't have a sticker.

My point is that the law more than likely states something to the affect of operating a vehicle without a valid sticker. Then go to court and argue that the truck was parked. It doesn't matter how the truck came to be in a public parking lot. It could have been brought on a trailer for all they know.

I had gotten a ticket today in Menard's parking lot for "no safety sticker".

What is the validity of this ticket since it was given in a parking lot? I didn't know WTF this ticket was for till I got home and google "safety inspection sticker". I guess in Illinois for "D" plates (gvwr 8001+) a safety inspection is required twice a year. I bought this truck in October!
I pulled in, parked and had seen this cop playing revenue bingo on the opposite side.

The real kicker is it's a $100 VILLAGE ticket, I had gotten a no front plate ticket in the same village and it was only $50.

My plan of recourse is to go get the inspection sticker tomorrow and go plead my case that I knew nothing about a law that existed, the truck is 4 months old, and I am now legal.

If that doesn't work, they are getting paid in pennies.

Look up the ordinance and see if it is for trucks over 8000 pounds or "commercial" trucks over 8000 pounds. My '01 Ram 2500 still has DOT stickers and such from the original owner, a commercial farming operation. Those are in the door and there is no DOT number on the outside. I'm running truck 9 plates as over gross will get a pretty heft fine, but my truck isn't for hire so I don't worry about DOT inspections. It would pass them, I'm just not going to pay for them. A lot of guys run truck 7 plates on 3/4 ton trucks around here but I work in transportation and most of my job is making sure the trucks leaving the plant are legal.

In Indiana, malls and such are considered public access private property. Stop signs aren't enforced by the police unless the property owner has a contract with the police department. It's quite possible that the mall owners have a contract with the village.

Indiana is better than Illinois. That's why all the governors of Illinois retire here. Two or three are in a Federal retirement home in Terre Haute.
