I have a 84' Camaro with a 350 motor and Turbo 350 Trans. from my 79' Z28 (barely fit the darn thing in). Anyways....when I accelerate, the motor revs but the car doesn't go(it does go eventually but at a very slow rate; similar to if a standard tranny was half clutching and punching the gas). Is this a bad torque converter? I tried changing the filter but that didn't help(although it was dirty and needed changing).

ALSO........This is probably a dumb question.....but

I was under the impression that you have to dissconnect the tranny from the motor to change out the torque converter. The salesman at JEGS told me that all i have to do is unscrew the bolts from the flywheel. Is this an easy/quick job?

Thanks in advance

Could be a bad torque convertor, could also be a blown sprag inside the tranny. Try putting it in L and giving it some gas, if it goes it's the sprag. If it doesn't I woud say it's probably the convertor. Yes you have to disconnect the tranny from the engine to swap the convertor.

The only time it does go is in reverse.......L, 2, and D are all messed up so I'm guessing it's the converter too.

What is a normal life for a torque converter?

I can't say, I've never had one break on me. If reverse works it's probably not the convertor though . . . almost sounds like you fried some clutches inside or something??
