Okay, it's not a Camaro, but this leak is driving me nuts. It's an '86 S-10 Blazer 4x4 with a 700-R4. Leaks really bad. We only drive it a few times a week but it'll go through a gallon of ATF in a month or so.
After driving, it'll drip trans fluid off the transferr case, off the rear trans x-member, and from the front of the trans. The entire underside of the vehicle is covered with grease, all the way back to the rear axle...
Here's what really gets me - it doesn't leak a drop until you drive down the highway. I sat in the driveway about 30-45 min this morning with the engine idling and nothing. Even put it in gear and torque-braked it a bit. Still nothing. Then I took it and drove it around a bit at 20-30mph. Not a drop. Get on the highway and when I stop there she goes, leaking all over the place...
So, any ideas? I'd really like it if I could get this truck to stop 'marking its terrtory' everywhere we go, plus it would give some peace of mind on trips...

-'86 Camaro ____/700-R4, 2.73's. Original engine was cracked - 350, or 383 now?
-'92 LeBaron LX sedan - all family owned, great daily driver. 52mm TB, more mods coming...
-'86 S10 Blazer 4x4 - 2.8l V6, 243K mi, and still running!

Anyone?
Or does anyone know of a good S10 or Blazer bulliten board where it would be more appropriate to ask this?

That has one of those dipsticks with the o-ring and lock down lever right? Try leaveing the dipstick out of the tube and go for a drive see if it still does it.

nope, dipstick is just like on my TH350. Might have an o-ring, not sure, but definately no lock-down lever. Still worth a try I guess.

When I had a leaky TH350, I got a couple cans of engine cleaner and cleaned up the transmission and other surrounding parts really well (this included scrubbing all oil-soaked dirt off with a steel brush), then drove it around a bit to get it to leak again. It worked pretty well, I think.

Might be different for you, however.

Yeah, did that, but it won't leak unless I'm going down the highway, and then the leaking fluid just gets blown all over the place under there.

Try harder.

If you were transmission fluid being blown all over the place, where would you come out of the transmission?

If it's being blown towards the rear of the car, your best bet might be to check out the farthest forward source of oil, then work from there. Check your front and rear seals, oil pan gasket, manual shaft seal, speedo seal, and tailshaft gasket, dipstick seal.

Really, it seems to act just like my TH350 when the front seal was leaking, but I'm not sure because it only does it at high speed, and I REALLY don't want to mess with pulling the tranny to do that if it isn't the culprit!
